Would you use your bathroom more comfortably with a shower instead of a tub? And can you make that change without remodeling the whole room?
Those are the questions to answer first. Our Bath Fitter Tri-Cities team, served from Johnson City, helps homeowners compare the space, the cost and the features they’ll actually use. Our family has operated Bath Fitter franchises since 2003.
A tub-to-shower conversion removes the bathtub and replaces it with a shower in the bathing area. We measure, review the existing plumbing and help you choose the base, walls and enclosure. You get a written quote before deciding whether the project is right for you.

What does our Tri-Cities team’s shower work look like?
The Kingsport, Tennessee photos below show a real shower replacement by our Tri-Cities team. This project started with an existing shower, rather than a bathtub. It gives you a local example of the removal, preparation and finished shower system.
For your tub conversion, the starting point will be different: our installer removes the bathtub and prepares that space for the new shower. We’ll look at its dimensions, the plumbing and the entry before recommending a base.

What does a tub-to-shower conversion cost in Tri-Cities?
Our franchise’s published 2026 planning range for a tub-to-shower conversion is about $8,500–$17,000 installed. That is our range across locations, rather than a Tri-Cities-only average. It is not the price of the Kingsport shower replacement.
The design choices make a difference. A curtain and smooth walls can keep the cost down. Glass, decorative walls and seating can raise it. If a seat or a particular entry is important, tell us first. We can look at simpler choices elsewhere rather than leave out the feature you called us for.
Our conversion pricing page explains the design examples and installed work. For the wider comparison with ready-made showers and custom tile, read our 2027 tub-to-shower conversion cost guide, which uses current 2026 prices to help you plan ahead.
What’s included when we replace the tub?
We remove and haul away the old materials, prepare the tub or shower area, and install the new base, acrylic walls and a new valve. We complete the plumbing connections, fit the enclosure and accessories in your quote, and clean up when the work is finished.
Repairs for water damage within the tub or shower area are included in our installation price. Structural work is referred to the appropriate specialist. Tell us about any known leaks or soft spots during the consultation so we can look at them with you.
What if the tub is the only part you want to change?
You can plan around the parts of the bathroom you like. A conversion focuses on the bathing area. A vanity, new flooring throughout the room, lighting or moving fixtures means separate work.
If the household still needs a bathtub, removing the only one may be the wrong change. We can talk about a replacement tub or a suitable liner instead. If you want a different room layout or real tile, a traditional remodeling contractor may offer the design freedom you’re after.
Which features will make your shower better to use?
Start with what bothers you about the tub today. If stepping over the side is becoming difficult, discuss the entry first. If cleaning is the problem, look at the wall surface and enclosure. Our one-piece acrylic wall wraps around the corners without grout lines on the wall surface to scrub. It still needs regular cleaning.
A seat, grab bars, a handheld shower and reachable storage can matter more than a finish upgrade. Plan their positions with us so they work with the wall system and how you’ll use the space. Our aging-in-place shower guide explains what to discuss.
How long will the work take?
Many conversions can be installed in as little as one day after measurement and product preparation. Some need more time. Bathroom conditions, custom bases and custom glass can affect the schedule.
Ask about the wait for the order, the installation visits and when you can use the shower. Those are different parts of the schedule. Our one-day installation guide explains what happens before the crew arrives and why some jobs take longer. Follow your installer’s instructions before turning on the water.
Who will do the work and help afterward?
Operations Manager Larry Tittle and Sales Manager Jon Barnette help lead our Tri-Cities team. Bath Fitter manufactures and ships the acrylic products; our franchise’s own installers put them in your bathroom. You have a local team to contact after installation. Meet the Tri-Cities team.
Bath Fitter acrylic products have a lifetime warranty, subject to the written terms. Doors, fixtures and other components can have different coverage. See the warranty details for what applies to your project.
Our Johnson City office serves the Tri-Cities market. Start with the ZIP where the work will happen so we can confirm coverage for your address. The market covers a wider region, and a city name alone does not confirm every home. See the serving-office details.

Many conversions can be installed in as little as one day after measurement and product preparation. Some need more time, and custom glass may require another visit. We’ll explain the schedule and when the shower can be used.
Does installation include the valve, haul-away and wet-area repairs?
Yes. Our installation price includes a new valve, hauling away the old materials and repairs for water damage within the tub or shower area. Structural work is referred to the appropriate specialist.

No. The published Kingsport project is a replacement of an existing shower. It shows real work by our Tri-Cities team and is labeled that way. Your tub conversion starts with removing a bathtub and preparing that area for a new shower.
