Summary
- Bath Fitter authorizes 117 household cleaners for its acrylic tubs and walls (list dated July 1, 2026).
- Our team’s first pick is Clorox Clean-Up with Bleach. Bleach-based bathroom sprays on the list are fine; straight bleach soaks are not.
- Whatever you use, rinse it off right away. That rule matters more than the brand.
- Not on the list: Magic Eraser, scouring powders, chemical drain cleaners and straight bleach.
- Seven products were dropped in the 2026 update, including Gel-Gloss and Scrubbing Bubbles Free Pur.

“Can I use this on my shower?” Homeowners send us that question with a photo of a spray bottle more often than you’d think. It’s a good question. Bath Fitter keeps an official list of household cleaners it has authorized for its acrylic tubs and walls, and most people have never seen it.
Maybe you’re standing in the cleaning aisle trying to figure out which bottle won’t wreck a brand-new shower. Or maybe you’ve been using the same cleaner for years and you’re just now wondering if that was a mistake.
Here’s the whole thing. Below you’ll find the cleaners sorted by job, the one rule that matters more than any brand, what got dropped from the list in the latest update, and the complete list of all 117 products. Since Louie Mullikin opened our family’s first Bath Fitter office in 2003, we’ve answered this question in a lot of bathrooms. We figured it was time to just publish the answer.
What is Bath Fitter’s approved cleaner list?
It’s Bath Fitter’s own list of household products authorized for its acrylic tubs, shower bases and walls. The version on this page is dated July 1, 2026. It has 117 products, from grocery-store brands like Clorox, Lysol, Formula 409 and Windex to commercial cleaners you’d find in hotels and hospitals, plus a few natural options like white vinegar and apple cider vinegar.
Why does a list like this exist? Acrylic is smooth and non-porous, which is why it’s easy to clean. It’s also softer than porcelain enamel or glazed tile, and some harsh chemicals can dull or damage the finish if they’re left on it. The list takes the guesswork out of which products are fine.
It also comes from the right people. Bath Fitter makes the acrylic itself, so the company that knows how the material is made and tested is the one deciding what’s safe to put on it. Aaron Bishop, who runs our Columbia and Augusta teams, put it this way on our podcast:
“Is this product undamaged? Has it been tested? Right, we know the testing was done because we did the testing before we sent it out.”
Aaron Bishop · Operations Manager, Columbia and Augusta
From there, our own employees deliver it, install it and service it. There’s no outside supplier in the middle, so if something on your shower ever looks off, there’s one number to call and nobody to point fingers at.
It covers Bath Fitter acrylic in general, so it’s a good guide whether we installed your shower last month or it came with the house.
What’s the one rule that matters more than the brand?
Every page of the list ends with the same instruction:
“Always rinse any cleaning product off the tub and wall surfaces immediately. Cleaners should not be allowed to remain on the acrylic surfaces for any length of time.”
Bath Fitter, List of Authorized Household Cleaning Products (July 2026)
In other words, the brand is only half of it. Even a product from this list should go on, get a gentle wipe and come right back off with clean water. No hard scrubbing, no long soaks.
You’ll hear some longtime owners, and even a couple of our own operations managers, say they let a cleaner sit for a few minutes on tough buildup. We cover that honestly in our guide on how to clean an acrylic shower. The short version: the written rule is rinse right away, and if you ever let a product sit, don’t walk off and let it dry.
Which cleaner should I use for each job?
If you don’t want to read 117 product names, start here. These are familiar brands from the list, grouped by the problem you’re trying to solve.
| The job | Approved products to look for | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly cleaning | Clorox Clean-Up with Bleach, Formula 409 Multi-Surface, Lysol Bathroom Bleach Cleaner, Simple Green All-Purpose | Clorox Clean-Up is our team’s first pick |
| Soap scum and dull film | Scrub Free Soap Scum Remover, Lysol Power Bathroom, Lysol Bathroom Foam, The Works Tub & Shower | Soap scum builds slowly, so a weekly pass beats a monthly scrub |
| Hard water and mineral spots | CLR PRO Calcium, Lime & Rust Remover, Lime-A-Way, Simple Green Lime Scale Remover, white vinegar (5% or less) | Only the spray foam version of Bar Keepers Friend made the list |
| Mold and mildew | Tilex Mold & Mildew Remover, Clorox Clean-Up with Bleach, RMR-86 Instant Mold & Mildew Stain Remover | Mildew comes from moisture, so pair these with a fan and a squeegee |
| Rust stains | Iron Out Rust Stain Remover, Rust Out, CLR PRO | Rust usually comes from a can or razor left on the ledge, not the shower itself |
| Daily “spray and walk away” | Clean Shower Original, Method Daily Shower, Attitude Daily Shower, Wet & Forget Shower (weekly) | Helps between real cleanings, especially on glass doors |
| Glass doors and mirrors | Windex Original or Vinegar, Cinch, Hope’s Perfect Glass, Formula 409 Glass & Surface | Overspray lands on your walls, so it helps that these are approved too |
| Natural and plant-based options | White vinegar, Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar, Seventh Generation, Method, Better Life, Green Works, Attitude | Still rinse them off. Vinegar is an acid |
Which cleaner does our team recommend first?
When we asked our operations team what they tell homeowners to grab first, the answer was Clorox Clean-Up with Bleach. It’s easy to find, it handles everyday grime and mildew, and it’s on the authorized list.
That might surprise you if you’ve heard “never use bleach on acrylic.” Here’s the difference. Soaking or scrubbing a tub with straight bleach is a bad idea on acrylic. A bleach-based bathroom spray that’s made for the job, used as directed and rinsed away, is fine. Several are on the list, including Clorox Clean-Up, Lysol Bathroom Bleach Cleaner, Soft Scrub with Bleach and Scrub Free Foaming Action with Bleach.
Want something without bleach? Formula 409, Simple Green, Seventh Generation and Method are all on the list.
What’s not on the list?
A product that isn’t listed isn’t automatically harmful. It just hasn’t been authorized for Bath Fitter acrylic. That matters, because Bath Fitter’s written lifetime warranty asks owners to stick to this list. A few common ones people ask us about:
- Magic Eraser and other melamine sponges. Not on the list. They work like very fine sandpaper, which is exactly what you don’t want on acrylic.
- Powdered cleansers. Comet’s bathroom spray is on the list. Scouring powders are not. Same with Bar Keepers Friend: the spray foam is listed, the powder isn’t.
- Chemical drain cleaners. These are called out by name as a risk to acrylic. A plunger, a drain snake or a plumber is the safer route.
- Straight bleach. Bleach-based bathroom cleaners are listed. A jug of laundry bleach poured into the tub is not.
The July 2026 update also removed seven products that used to be on the list. If you’ve been using one of these, it’s time to switch:
- Clorox Healthcare Hydrogen Peroxide Disinfectant Wipes
- Gel-Gloss One-Step Polish & Protector
- Pink Solution Multi All-Purpose Cleaner (the Pink Solution Multi-Purpose Cleaner, #82 below, is still listed)
- Pink Solution Scrub Hard Surface Cleaner
- Scrubbing Bubbles Free Pur
- Selection ECO All-Purpose Cleaner, Citrus Sage
- Thieves (Young Living)
The same update added products #91 through #113 on the full list below.
What tools should I use with these cleaners?
The cleaner is only half of it. Use a microfiber cloth or a non-scratch sponge, and skip steel wool, green scrub pads and stiff brushes. Keep a squeegee in the shower and give the walls a quick pass after you get out. It’s the cheapest thing you can do to keep water spots and mildew from building up.

What’s on the full list of 117 approved cleaners?
Here’s every product on Bath Fitter’s List of Authorized Household Cleaning Products as of July 1, 2026. Some brands on it are sold mainly in Canada or to commercial cleaning companies, so don’t worry if you don’t recognize every name. Bookmark this page or ask us for a printed copy.

What if my shower already looks dull or stained?
Most of the time it isn’t a stain. It’s buildup from soap, hard water or body oils, and it comes off with an approved cleaner, a soft cloth and a little patience. If a spot won’t budge, if the silicone is dark or pulling away from the wall, or if you think something got scratched, call us before you reach for anything stronger. Resealing silicone is a normal maintenance visit. And a scratch usually isn’t the end of the world either. Here’s Aaron’s take:
“Even if you manage to get a good scratch in it, ninety nine percent of time we can come out. We can buff that spot. You won’t even know it happened.”
Aaron Bishop · Operations Manager, Columbia and Augusta

Frequently asked questions
Is Dawn dish soap safe on an acrylic shower?
Dish soap isn’t on Bath Fitter’s approved list, and the warranty asks you to use only listed cleaners, so we’d skip it. For a gentle everyday option that is on the list, try Seventh Generation, Method or Simple Green, and rinse well.
Can I use Scrubbing Bubbles on Bath Fitter acrylic?
The only Scrubbing Bubbles product that was on the list, Scrubbing Bubbles Free Pur, was removed in the July 2026 update, and no other Scrubbing Bubbles products are listed. Scrub Free and Lysol Power Bathroom are approved options for soap scum.
Is CLR safe for an acrylic shower?
CLR PRO Calcium, Lime & Rust Remover is on the approved list. Use it on hard water spots, wipe gently with a soft cloth and rinse it off right away.
Can I use Rain-X on my shower walls?
Rain-X Plastic Water Repellent is on the approved list. That’s the version made for plastic surfaces. Regular Rain-X glass treatments aren’t listed, so stick with the plastic formula on acrylic.
Where can I get a printed copy of the approved cleaner list?
Ask your installer or call your local team and we can get you a copy. You can also bookmark this page. We plan to update it when Bath Fitter updates the list.
